2019 Pirate Stats, Awards, and Honors (Updated June 20, 2019)
Pirates ended the 2019 campaign with 14-5 record http://steds.lacrosseshift.com/stats#/team-schedule?team_id=45729
and at this writing ranked #12 in the FHSAA MaxPreps Rankings. The Pirates went 5-0 through District play, then beat Pine School, 12 to 5 in the semi-finals, and competed against Martin County in the finals ending with the Pirates earning a 16-6 victory. The Pirates made this District 23 Championship our third in a row, and essentially each Pirate Championship has been a totally different team.
This year's group of players is young, and talented. However, we struck out against #2 ranked Jupiter Warriors in the State Regional First Round, but all season long we showed glimpses of what this team can do next year with a year's maturity added to their growth and development. Our depth for the 2020 season takes on new meaning, with at least 6 midfielders who are both offensive threats and well-schooled defensive players too. Our attack (Ryan Bird, Josh Pusser and Oscar Lindenthal) will only become more dangerous as finalizers and creators (Jack Kincus, Rising Junior is starting to make a move to enter this group and Marshall Heim should enter this group with continued development and growth), and our defensive corps depth is amazing with the interchangeable parts that are a luxury with Sam Cardosi, Sam Toomey, Drew Eidemueller, Brennan Wolfe, and Ian Horvit (with our depth here, we can also use the versatility of Reid Bartosch here at times if needed for match-up or face-off wing needs).
We have created depth at the Face-Off X, with Riker Pratt leading the way as a Rising Soph, Ashton Noe developed incredibly, Rising Freshman Eli Barin should provide another excellent option, and Ian Horvit should be a factor in us countering at times with LP change up after a short season in 2019with an ankle injury.
Then we having a Rising Freshman class that features some excellent talent, that includes Ford Norris, Eli Barin, Ricky Savage, Dylan Redmon, Sam Thomas, and Cooper Naughtin.)
The future is bright in 2020, and our resolve to enter the top tier of Florida High School Lacrosse is our calling card for everything will work on from now through our 2020 season.
Back to the recap: Will Sternberg is/was our only senior, but his play was instrumental in helping guide this young team to our third District 23 championship in that many years; Will participated on each of those unique championship teams. We wish Will good luck with his FACA Player of the Year nomination.
Will Sternberg has been named as a finalist for the FACA District 19 Player of the Year, for both the Soccer and Lacrosse, of the Treasure Coast Sports Commission Scholar Athlete Awards Night on
Our team had much success, but we also had our fails. We did not accomplish our goal to defeat some most competitive squads in Florida ) losing to #5 Oxbridge Academy, #8 American Plantation, the unique IMG squad, and District 8 Champion Lake Mary, as well as the District 24 Champion and #2 ranked Jupiter Warriors, but we did compete; but those losses are the next step in our development considering that the District 24 Champions for the past three years has made it to the Finals of the State Championship for the last three years.
